This delicious vegan Donauwelle dessert features layers of chocolate and vanilla cake topped with a creamy vegan frosting and cherries.

- 250 g all-purpose flour
- 200 g sugar
- 100 g cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 250 ml almond milk
- 100 ml vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 200 g cherries
- 200 g vegan butter
- 400 g powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add almond milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Divide the batter into two bowls. In one bowl, add cocoa powder for the chocolate batter.
- Pour half of the vanilla batter into a prepared baking pan, then add the chocolate batter on top.
- Drop cherries evenly on top of the chocolate layer and then pour the remaining vanilla batter over.
- Bake for about 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool, then prepare the frosting by beating vegan butter and powdered sugar together until creamy, adding cocoa powder for the chocolate frosting.
- Spread the frosting over the cooled cake and decorate as desired.
Notes
- Store the cake in the refrigerator for a firmer texture.
- For a richer flavor, let the cake sit overnight before serving.
