Rinderrouladen are delicious German beef rolls filled with mustard, bacon, and vegetables, slow-cooked for a tender and flavorful meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 beef roulades
  • 4 tablespoons mustard
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 pickles, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon flour

Instructions

  1. Spread mustard evenly over each beef roulade.
  2. Place a slice of bacon, some onion, and pickles on each roulade.
  3. Season with salt and pepper, then roll up tightly and secure with toothpicks.
  4. Heat oil in a large pan and brown the roulades on all sides.
  5. Add beef broth to the pan and cover, simmering for about 1.5 hours.
  6. Remove roulades, and thicken the sauce with flour if desired.
  7. Serve hot with sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the beef roulades overnight.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or red cabbage for a traditional meal.
