A delicious traditional German preserve made with rum-soaked fruits.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 liter rum
  • 500 grams mixed fruits (e.g. strawberries, cherries, peaches)
  • 300 grams sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fruits by washing and cutting them into smaller pieces if necessary.
  2. In a large jar, layer the fruits with sugar.
  3. Pour the rum over the fruits ensuring they are completely submerged.
  4. Seal the jar tightly and store in a cool, dark place for several weeks.
  5. Stir the mixture occasionally to help dissolve the sugar.
  6. After a few weeks, the mixture can be enjoyed as a preserve or used as a topping for desserts.

Notes

  • This recipe is best prepared several weeks in advance to allow the flavors to develop.
  • You can use any combination of fruits based on your preference.
  • Ensure to use a high-proof rum for the best flavor.
