Fladenbrot is a traditional Middle Eastern flatbread, perfect for sharing and great with dips or as a side to meals.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until it forms a dough, then knead for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into smaller pieces.
  6. Roll each piece into a flat circle about ¼ inch thick.
  7. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  8. Place the rolled dough on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes until puffed and lightly golden.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • This bread is best served warm or at room temperature.
  • Can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.
