Dolma, or stuffed peppers, is a traditional dish that features bell peppers stuffed with a delicious mixture.

Ingredients

  • 4 bell peppers
  • 1 cup rice
  • 500 grams minced meat (beef or lamb)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, grated
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried mint
  • 2 cups water or broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Cut the tops off the bell peppers and remove the seeds.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté the chopped onion until translucent.
  4. Add the minced meat and cook until browned.
  5. Stir in the grated tomatoes, rice, salt, black pepper, and dried mint.
  6. Add 1 cup of water or broth to the mixture and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Stuff the bell peppers with the meat and rice mixture.
  8. Place the stuffed peppers in a baking dish, pour the remaining water or broth over them, and cover with foil.
  9. Bake for 30-40 minutes, until the peppers are tender.
  10. Serve hot.

Notes

  • This dish can be made vegetarian by omitting the meat and adding vegetables instead.
  • Serve with yogurt for added flavor.
