A traditional German Christmas bread filled with dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams all-purpose flour
  • 200 grams granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 250 ml milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 200 grams mixed dried fruits
  • 100 grams almonds, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 100 grams unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, and spices.
  2. In another bowl, combine the milk and yeast, then add the eggs and melted butter.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients, then knead until smooth.
  4. Add dried fruits and nuts, mix well.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  6. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a baking pan.
  7. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake for 40-45 minutes.
  8. Let it cool before serving.

Notes

  • Stollen is traditionally sprinkled with powdered sugar before serving.
  • For enhanced flavor, you can soak the dried fruits in rum overnight.
