  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
  6. Roll out and cut into biscuits.
  7. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes.
  8. In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned.
  9. Sprinkle sausage with flour and stir, then add milk and cook until thickened.
  10. Serve the gravy over the biscuits.

Notes

  • For extra flaky biscuits, be careful not to overwork the dough.
  • Feel free to add additional spices to the sausage for more flavor.
