- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
- Roll out and cut into biscuits.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes.
- In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned.
- Sprinkle sausage with flour and stir, then add milk and cook until thickened.
- Serve the gravy over the biscuits.
Notes
- For extra flaky biscuits, be careful not to overwork the dough.
- Feel free to add additional spices to the sausage for more flavor.
- Leftover gravy can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days.
