A delicious upside-down pear and poppy seed cake that is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe pears
  • 150 g poppy seeds
  • 200 g butter
  • 200 g sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 300 g flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. Peel and slice the pears.
  3. In a pan, melt butter and mix with sugar to create a caramel base. Pour this into a cake pan.
  4. Arrange pear slices on top of the caramel.
  5. In a bowl, combine poppy seeds, eggs, flour, baking powder, vanilla, butter, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter over the pears.
  7. Bake for about 45-50 minutes.
  8. Let it cool slightly, then flip onto a serving plate.

Notes

  • The cake can be served warm or at room temperature.
  • Great with a dollop of whipped cream on top.
