Bauerntopf is a hearty German one-pot dish, featuring a mix of meats and vegetables, perfect for chilly nights.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams beef, cubed
  • 500 grams pork, cubed
  • 200 grams bacon, diced
  • 4 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 liter beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons fresh herbs (parsley, thyme)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced bacon and cook until crispy.
  3. Add the beef and pork, and sear until browned.
  4. Add the onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
  5. Stir in the tomato paste, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. Add the broth, potatoes, and carrots. Bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat and simmer for about 1.5 hours until the meat is tender.
  8. Stir in the fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

  • Great served with crusty bread.
  • Can be kept in the refrigerator for 3 days.
  • Freezes well; thaw to reheat.
